Once it has been set up, you can actually remove MinimWatch and Java from your PC it is only required for configuring things.
#Asset upnp qnap install#
The only downside is that you have to install Java to run MinimWatch (on a computer) to set these things up (if you do that, do remember to go into the Java control panel, security, and disable Java access to web browsers - that is a serious security issue and it is enabled by default - and whilst in there, go to the last tab and at the bottom of the list, set it to suppress third party offers when updating Java (or if you update it when drunk, likely you'll end up with some rubbish - like McAfee AV suite - installed onto your PC). Simon is actually a heck of a nice chap (we have occasionally exchanged e-mails since the early days of MinimServer) and his app can totally be trusted. You can also set alpha-grouping on a per container basis (and set it to appear when a certain limit has been reached). Actually, you used to be able to do that with the albumArtist value, but when I mentioned it to Simon Nash (who designed MinimServer) he realised it was a mistake and disabled it to keep things complaint with the specifications (he is a stickler for complying with standards) and it was he who suggested I pick an alternative tag! I then found that you can even show a different name (menu name) on the control points, so I now have ensemble showing as 'Album Artists'. In my case, I now use the ensemble tag as well as the albumArtist one as with albumArtist, you can only use a single value, whereas with Ensemble, you can have multiple entries (so for example, you could tag an album - using MP3TAG - as Gilmore, David\\Pink Floyd and it would actually create two entries (ensemble=Gilmore, David and ensemble=Pink Floyd) and thus the album would appear in both.

MinimServer can be easily installed and it can be configured to do pretty much everything that I'd wish for. Hi I did look at the Qnap offering, but at the time it did not have an option to enable albumArtist (I suspect it still doesn't) and without that, it is not usable for my collection. Assuming it re-appears, I must at some stage try it again, just to see where it has now progressed to. I did mention it on the Asset forum and it was suggested I submit a couple of example tracks, but due to my workload at the time, I never got around to doing so (and in any case, I really do like MinimServer). I actually tried it not long after it was released, but for some odd reason lots of my album art didn't show (I only use art embedded into the FLAC files).

I am not sure of the process for placing third party applications in the Qnap applications centre, but assuming Qnap have to approve them, the issue might be at Qnap's end of things and thus another route might be to raise a ticket with Qnap support and ask if they know what's happened (though I would think contacting Spoon on the Asset forum might be the best thing to first try). Hi Perhaps it would be best to ask about it on the Asset forum (in fact, I would suggest sending a PM to user 'Spoon' to make him aware of the issue).
